Pokémon TCG History

Released in its home country of Japan in 1996, Pokémon debuted in the US in 1998 and has been a massive part of American pop culture ever since. For over two decades, the cute, colorful, and collectible “pocket monsters” have been wowing children and adults alike. The yellow card border is iconic, as are many of the creatures – Charizard, Mewtwo, Eevee, Greeninja, Lucario, and, of course, Pikachu.

Buy Pokémon Cards from The Iron Lion

In those twenty-plus years the Pokémon TCG has been available in the US, there have been a lot of different sets, series, expansions, and collections. Out of all of these, Pokémon base set singles are some of the most highly coveted. These cards were the first set ever released in America. Following the base set, there have been new sets released an average of four times every year. That makes for a lot of different cards to collect!

If you’re looking for the last few cards you need to complete one of the many sets or series from the past, you can buy Pokémon cards online from The Iron Lion. Or, come see the cards we have for sale at our shop in Colorado Springs. Be sure to stop by one of our weekly Pokémon nights to learn more about the game and put your best decks up against fellow enthusiasts in the local community.
